HE SHOOTS HE SCORES
'Are you proud of me' asked Sage after the game.
'We are very proud of you' all three of us responded. His father and stepmother were there cheering him on.
With every game, he gains confidence. Though today was the fifth game he has ever played, he played better than last Saturday and even scored a goal for his team. The delight on his face brought a big smile to mine.
At the start of the game, he was knocked down by a ball that struck him in the head from over three metres away. He must have an especially hard head as he got up straight away as if nothing had happened. From my perspective though, I must admit it was a bit funny.
The game was lively and both teams played well. Brasil, Sage's team, played against Spain. I was happy for my son who was enjoying the game moreso than the week before.
Near the end of the game Sage took a shot at the opponent's goal. The ball struck the stand-in goalie and ricocheted back to Sage and then back into the goal. He saw an opportunity, took a chance, and scored.
In life, as in a game, when we see an opportunity and dare to take a chance we might be rewarded with the best thing which has ever happened to us. But until we take that chance, we will never know what could have been.
