Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my everyday life. Home, travel, food, lifestyle.

OUR DAY

OUR DAY

‘Write about our day… about what we did’, the kids requested this evening after I told them I would be writing something on my blog. They like to read about what we did, as do I. When I look back on the times I wrote somewhat regularly, I miss it. The writing and the reflection. Recording memories that one day soon we would forget.

The sound of the thunder and rain and the flashes of lightning early this morning woke me from sleep earlier than was necessary for me to be awake. My older daughter decided she wanted to sleep in my bed. She told me she loves my bed and wants it for herself and that I can go sleep in her little twin daybed in the room she shares with her younger sister.

It has been a little more than two months since I put together my metal bed frame and unwrapped the mattresses which had been standing upright in the living room since last summer. Until then I had slept on the floor on another twin-sized mattress also wrapped in plastic or one of the kids’ beds or the middle section of the only sofa section without shrink wrap. Therefore, giving up my bed is not something I’m willing to do permanently. But I will share it with the kids who have taken turns these past few weeks. Of course with three kids, there is always some kind of ‘why does she get to have a turn’ discussion and how it’s not fair.

I listened to the thunder and the rain and watched as the lighting flashed every few seconds. It lasted for over an hour until I decided it was time to get up, shower, and walk over to the computer and start my day. But not before I went in the living room and put together a few puzzle pieces of the London at Night puzzle that my son and I started last night. Reluctantly, I had to leave the puzzle to sit at my table in my bedroom.

I clocked in a minute before 07,00 and started my work. I asked for an adjusted schedule this week so that I would have more work time before the kids awoke and so that I would be on time dropping them off at their father’s house on Friday. Finishing work at 15,30 is good though having a flexible schedule would be even better. But I am grateful to still have a job at this point so I will take what I can get for now.

At 09,00 I took my first short break and prepared a quick breakfast of softish boiled eggs with bagels along with fresh squeezed orange juice. The kids continued eating whilst I returned to work. Afterwards they each went on their way and did their own things.

Sage worked on the puzzle, did his schoolwork, and played the electric keyboard. He also spent time on his iPad but not as much as he usually does due to having the puzzle. Later in the afternoon, he went to my bed, turned on the reading lamp, and read a few chapters of the third Crime Travelers book.

Cinnamon decided to continue working for her sister in the pretend world of Bloxburg. Saffron is building a new house and needs more pretend money, so she gave her sister ten real dollars of her allowance to work in the virtual world for several hours. In the process, she was promoted twice as a salesperson to level 14. Both of the girls completed their schoolwork and then played some more.

During my last break of the day at 14,00, I decided to put together the ingredients to bake some chocolate chip oat cookies. After work, I baked the cookies and we all enjoyed them before dinner. It was a recipe I wrote years ago which initially had orange zest but the kids didn’t really like that part so I left it out.

Dinner was Saffron’s request of fettuccine alfredo. The simple version with just 150g each of butter and parmesan along with some pasta water mixed together with the pasta. There was broccoli on the side which was mostly neglected. At least I tried.

About an hour after dinner, we had our usual tea time with more cookies. Saffron was too full for any more cookies and decided to go work on her house. Cinnamon wanted milk with her tea like they have in England but did not realise it was not meant to be had with chamomile tea and certainly not half a cup of milk. After she tasted it, she decided it was not very good and ate a cookie without any tea whilst I enjoyed my cookie with English black tea. Sage had chamomile tea as well, but without any milk.

After my evening shower, it was time for the goodnight routine which consist of lavender spray, pink Mario Badescu facial spray, and the many ‘laku noć’ wishes along with hugs and kisses. The older one is still now busy building her house whilst on the phone with her friend as they both decide how the house should be designed. Tomorrow will be my turn to help her design the kitchen, living room, and a few other spaces in the downstairs area.

It has been quite some time since I did much journaling on this blog. Certainly, the events of just the past year have been more than trying and at times near impossible to bear. Writing has been quite therapeutic in the past whilst offering us all a way to remember the times we shared together.
