FOREVER GRATEFUL
‘Sage and I will be there to pick you up in about half an hour. We’re trying a new place’, I texted to my two daughters this morning.
‘Coffeehouse’, I added to my younger daughter’s text, as she is the one who likes coffee.
‘Happy Mother’s Day!!’, she texted back. Her sister was still asleep.
My son and I picked up his sisters at their father’s place around 10,30. We then drove to a new coffeehouse I stumbled upon last month as I was browsing Zillow. The listing on Zillow showed a photo of a nearby coffeehouse with a goat. After a bit of research, I found the place and thought I should at least try it.
I am always looking for new places to try coffee but have not yet come across anything close to the coffeehouses I enjoyed in Edinburgh. In Scotland. The draw to the coffeehouse this morning was Butters the goat. It was crowded. But today it seemed to be more of the Mother’s Day crowd. We waited our turn in line and decided on some food and drinks.
The options were not many for food. The younger two found a croissant sandwich they wanted to try. My older daughter chose cinnamon toast. I just had a cappuccino because the scone I thought was for sale in a box only came as a box set. You had to buy the entire box of sweets which made no sense for me. Nor would they simply give me a plain croissant.
Our drinks were ready after some wait. The food was a different story. A very long wait. Longer than I had ever waited for anything at a coffee place. The kids were getting impatient, understandably. Then my younger daughter’s food was not what she ordered, but she was afraid to say anything for fear we would have to wait another half an hour. Or longer. My son went with Cinnamon to let the staff know that his sister wanted to have the correct item.
Once the food came, she ate it quickly. Then we left.
‘Do you think you’ll come back’, asked Cinnamon.
‘I don’t think so’, I replied.
We then drove to The Domain and went to Starbucks so I could get a scone as I was hungry. They were not the scones of many years before when the kids were young, but it would do. My older daughter was hungry still as well, so she ordered an almond croissant. The younger two shared a Frappuccino.
We walked around for a short while before driving to Trader Joe’s then to drop off my older daughter at her father’s house since she had other things to do. I then drove home with the younger two kids where we stayed for the remainder of the evening as I made pizza dough.
As the dough was rising, the siblings played outside. Sage replaced the bike pedals with new ones which arrived via Amazon today. When they returned, my daughter took a shower to be able to wash her hair as she wanted me to cut her hair. She also selected some clothes to buy online. School events are coming up soon and she needed some new clothes.
After our pizza dinner and ice cream dessert, it was time to drive my daughter to her father’s house. By the time we got there, it was already 22,00. My son wanted to go say ‘hi’ to his father again, as he did earlier in the day. He returned after a few minutes and then we drove back home. Just the two of us once again.
The best things in life are unexpected. I am forever grateful for having spent a beautiful day with all three of my children.
