STATE OF AWE
Sometimes nature can impress you beyond belief. Like when the sky decides to put on a stunning and surreal display of colours and intensity which leaves you in a state of awe. Such was the case this evening when I happened to be out late this afternoon.
I wasn’t planning on going anywhere, as I had plenty to do at home. Since my son spent the night at his father’s house, I decided to look for some Advent gifts for the children. I found myself driving to the neighbouring city where we used to live years ago. My older daughter texted me at precisely the moment that I walked out of the store and into the parking lot. At the exact moment that I looked up and noticed the most amazing sunset.
‘The sunset’, she texted, with a smiley face with heart eyes emoji. Along with a photo of the sunset from her backyard. A little while later, my younger daughter sent me a beautiful sunset photo that she took. When your children text you about the sunset, you know it is something to take note of. I snapped a few photos whilst walking into the parking lot. Oblivious to any cars. The colours of the sky kept getting more intense. The pink clouds scattered outwards in a particular pattern.
The last photo I took was my favourite. The one with the shadow of a tree against a sky of blue, pink, orange, and yellow. How can nature be so beautiful, I wondered. By the time I got into my car, the warm colours of the sky were fading into the dark of night.
Life is not perfect. It is not neatly wrapped up in a pretty box with a bow. But if we take the time to appreciate the moments of beauty, we will realise that things are not as bad as we might believe them to be.
