IN MY OWN BACKYARD
After a month off from the Memento Mori tour in Europe, Depeche Mode is returning to the US for the second time this year. The first three concert dates in Mexico starting later this week, then in Austin at the new Moody Center arena at the end of this month, before continuing on to other states.
Initially, I was not planning on seeing them in the US. Instead, I thought about returning to Europe for the end of their tour next year. Then I reconsidered and planned how I could see them in a state other than Texas. I researched places with public transportation and selected a few places. Seattle and Vancouver were my initial choices. Then Toronto. I briefly considered Chicago, but changed my mind.
Having already seen them in Dublin at the Malahide Castle with my middle daughter in June and then in Rome at Stadio Olimpico with my son in July, there was no reason to see them again. But it’s Depeche Mode. Reason enough for me.
Music is my happy place and I was grateful to have been able to see them at their Music for the Masses tour at the Rose Bowl, though not with the person I had planned to see them with. Nevertheless, it was a great experience.
Seeing them again at the end of this month would be yet another adventure. And why not go, when they will be playing practically in my own backyard.
