Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in my everyday life. Home, travel, food, lifestyle.

SCONES AND ISS

‘I wish we had a couch so I can sit there and watch you cook’ I heard my son tell me this morning as I walked into the kitchen to start on breakfast.

‘Me too’ I told him as I also wished we were able to set up the place so we could use it properly. But then I thought how grateful I was to finally breathe fresh air and have an empty apartment with a lot of space. A space that will soon be filled with furniture, though there are a few pieces of furniture that might have to be stored in the garage due to the reduced square footage.

As I set about making the first sweet baked good in this new place, I was happy to have a larger kitchen once again. When you spend most of your time in the kitchen, having more space makes it a much more pleasant experience. I truly despised our last kitchen and the apartment layout in general.

Sometimes I wish I could have continued with my design of homes that I loved when I was younger instead of pursuing a degree that I neither enjoyed nor that brought me anywhere in life. I would design homes that were livable instead of maximised merely for profit as most places seem to be designed.

When the vanilla bean scones came out of the oven, we sat outside and enjoyed our Sunday breakfast on the balcony. Cinnamon cut cantaloupe, strawberries, and bananas then added blackberries to the cutting board for our selection of fruit alongside the scones. I also made Croatian coffee and was glad to have found a small cup for it as I had left most of the dishes packed in boxes in the second garage.

I went to the old apartment more than I had planned for today but managed to pack only a few boxes and gathered other kitchen items in paper bags to carry up to the third floor of our new place. After a while, I was too tired to move anymore. For once I wanted to spend some time not moving but realise it will be weeks before that happens.

Every time I climbed the stairs, I would notice the cleaning supplies on the counter of the guest apartment. It made me wonder why we were rushed out of there so quickly on Friday. I could have finished my work day at my regular time instead of taking an extended lunch and rushing the kids to move our belongings out of that place and into our new place. The thought made me very upset which prompted my email draft to management later in the evening.

Later in the afternoon, my son decided to start building his Lego International Space Station set. He decided to work through the first two bags of bricks as he was trying to stretch out the project as long as possible.

After our dinner, I returned to my email draft to the apartment complex which I decided to revisit upon awakening. This entire experience has been one of the greatest challenges I’ve gone through lately but I still think there is some silver lining in there somewhere.
