ELECTIVE TRANSFER
‘The transfer was elective for what you thought would be the best remediation so we were as helpful as possible. Please find a way to continue getting everything out of [apartment] as soon as possible as I do not believe we will be able to extend the courtesy too much longer of waiving the double rent.’
‘Oh yes! I love having to move all of my things at a moment’s notice in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic, whilst working full time, and during my 30 days of summer with the kids! That was my plan all along. I’ve always dreamed of making my life more difficult and making this as uncomfortable as possible for all of us. I also cherish the thought of sleeping and eating on the floor and spending hours looking for a cup, knife, or the spices we need for our meals. That is such the ideal way to live’… said no one ever.
As much as I wanted to reply with those words to the apartment manager’s email, I decided instead to call my insurance company to assist with the issue of my needing to speed up my packing until I am able to do so according to my schedule.
It is a mystery to me that they though I elected to move. Enduring the headaches, lack of sleep, and the burning sensation in my lungs was not something that anybody would wish upon themselves but unbeknownst to me, I was living without the knowledge of it having been mold for many weeks. Now it’s time for another change to our lives as we make our home elsewhere.
The children have been really great at adapting to this change. As my oldest stated, this adventure of the move is possibly more than we would have done otherwise this summer due to the travel restrictions that Coronavirus brought onto our plans.
During my final break of the day, I sat outside on the balcony with my son and my middle daughter as we looked up at the clouds and noticed clouds take the shape of a poodle, an elephant, and a camel with two humps. At times the clouds gathered together in darkened shades and threatened rain, but only a few drops fell on us when we were at the pool later in the day.
As soon as I finished my work, we walked to the pool and I sat on a lounge chair whilst the children enjoyed playing in the water. The girls were busy doing TikToks at the far end of the pool whilst my son was playing with the three former upstairs neighbour boys. At one point, Cinnamon walked over with two bees on her arms. She is not afraid of them at all and liked to have the bees as some kind of pets.
For dinner, the kids wanted breakfast. I mixed up the ingredients for a puffy pancake and put it in the oven as we waited the 20 minutes to be able to eat it outside. The balcony has been put to great use since we moved in despite the fact that we sit on only a duvet cover. It is a place of peacefulness amidst the chaos of late.
As much as we at times try to fight change, it comes into our lives regardless of our wishing it would stay away. Though this move was not an ‘elective transfer’, time will show its reason. Without change, life might not be as much of an adventure.
