FOR THE SOUL
‘What’s that song? The one you’re humming?’. My son is always humming a tune throughout the day and into the night. This one sounded so familiar, but I just couldn’t place it.
I thought about it for the next few minutes until I forced my brain to process where I could have possibly heard that song. It was not too long ago; I knew that much. Then it started coming to me.
‘Kanzlei…’, I exclaimed and quickly looked on ZDF and found what I was looking for. Kanzlei Berger. A German series involving two daughters who are both lawyers, working together in their father’s law firm after he collapsed and ended up in the hospital.
‘It’s called ‘Everything at Once’’, he replied.
‘You’re kidding! Are you serious?! Those are the exact three words of yesterday’s blog post.’
He found the song and proceeded to sing along happily.
Today I stumbled upon new music from Halsey, ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’, with influence from Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails. A most amazing collaboration. The piano, electronics, and beautiful melodic voice of Halsey result in a most sensual and moving music that I have come across in a while. In addition, the cinematography accompanying the songs are set in an era or beautiful gowns and a dark mood.
Music is powerful. It has a way of touching one’s soul down to the core of our being. It is a forceful medium which awakens and brings about a flood of emotions to the surface, long since buried. Memories from the past. Dreams of the future. Motivation. A way of transporting us to a faraway place where dreams become reality, if only for a moment in our minds.
Sometimes music has a way to take us into a Downward Spiral, but not this music. Not today. Today it was music for the soul. A much-needed escape to a place where we ‘…camouflage so I can feed the lie that I’m composed’.
