ENVISIONING AUTUMN
Though the calendar tells me it is officially Autumn, the weather outside still clings tightly to summer with a high today of 35 degrees Celsius. Definitely not Autumn.
The Autumn I envision has me curled up in a cozy chair in front of a glowing fireplace with a warm blanket and a book. Colourful leaves cover the pathway to the cottage. The gentle breeze of the nearby lake makes me glad to be indoors. An ‘indoors’ somewhere far away from my current location.
The following morning, I grab my down jacket and scarf, and head to the farmer’s market to get vegetables for a nice, warm soup.
As the soup is cooking on the stove, I return to the fireplace and continue reading the book from the previous evening. The sound of a gentle rain turns my focus to one of the windows and I notice the evergreen trees swaying in the wind. Once again, I am grateful to spend a cozy evening indoors.
Envisioning autumn in this way brings a peacefulness as I crawl under my current covers and I drift away to sleep. ‘One day’, I think to myself.
